Canada's Golden Maple International Film Festival
comes to British Columbia in September 2017
A Canada Golden Maple Film Festival launch
An event worth noting will be held in British Columbia this year. An enthusiastic committee, primarily made up of prominent members of B.C.’s Chinese-Canadian community, have organized what they hope will be a permanent addition to the outstanding events held annually in British Columbia:
The Canada Golden Maple International Film Festival.
This years festival will be held September 20 to September 25 at a variety of venues in Vancouver and the Lower Mainland.
A promotional conference announcing plans for the Canada Golden Maple International Film Festival was held on August 8, 2017. The exclusive networking and press conference was held on Gabriola Island to enable the organizing committee to enlighten local and foreign media about the coming event.
A flotilla of luxury boats left Granville Island, early in the afternoon, for a tranquil cruise through the Straight of Georgia, enroute to Gabriola Island, one of the islands that dot the waters between the British Columbia Mainland and Vancouver Island. The day was warm, the breeze gentle, the ocean calm and the journey was a pleasant convivial experience. The only negative thing was the slight, smoky, haze in the distance from the forest fires that have plagued British Columbia this summer. Our fantastic mountain views were somewhat concealed by the distant smoke in the air.

Upon arrival at the Gabriola dock, we were all shuttled from the dock, through the forest lined island roads, to the Dragon Lodge Resort, an exclusive resort located in a forest setting overlooking picturesque scenery and the blue waters that flow through the Salish Sea.
Upon arrival at the Dragon Lodge, we enjoyed the tranquil setting while networking with the Organizing Committee and various members of the film community, both local and from abroad. A tasty barbecue, with a variety of offerings was held on the deck overlooking the seaside. Musical entertainment was provided by Carlo Aspri, a Canadian pianist and vocalist, who performed at the Nanjing Olympic Games.

Ms. Hillary Wang, Chairperson of the Canadian Golden Maple Film Festival led the speakers in telling the assembled guests about the series of events organized for the festival. The highlights include the opening ceremony, red carpet and charity dinner, to be held on September 22 at the Pan Pacific Hotel in Vancouver. The closing event of the festival, the Golden Maple Award Ceremony will be held at the Bell Performing Art Centre in Surrey. Stars from China and Hollywood will be attending both events.

Film entries have come in from many countries around the world, Canada of course, also the United States, the Chinese Mainland, India, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Europe and Russia. The Golden Maple Film Festival aims to promote the cultural exchange of film elements between the Chinese Film Industry and Canada’s multicultural Film Industry.
